Introduction
This is a Schedule of the General Terms and Conditions of Service provided by Redcentaur Hosting that applies to the provision of SSL certificates and associated services.
Specific definitions
SSL certificate
A Secure Socket Layer certificate (‘SSL certificate’) is used to facilitate an encrypted link between the providers of a resource or service and the service requestors.
SSL certificate services
Fees
The SSL certificate fees are set out on our website at the time you submit an order and updated from time to time.
No warranty
We use several market-leading third party Certification Authorities to issue SSL certificates for us. We do not warrant that:
- an order for an SSL certificate will be accepted by the relevant SSL certificate Certification Authority; or
- any attempt to issue an SSL certificate will be successful.
We have no liability if any SSL certificate chosen by you infringes any rights or any third party or is used improperly when facilitating an encrypted link between the providers of a resource or service and the requestors of that resource or service.
Third-party warranty
Any warranty of the SSL certificate Certification Authority as part of the issued SSL certificate is the sole responsibility of the SSL certificate Certification Authority and cannot be interpreted as a warranty offered by us.
Resale
We resell the SSL certificate services to you. We use a third party Certification Authority to provide the SSL certificate to you and by submitting an order, you agree to be bound by the relevant Certification Authority's terms and conditions.
Renewals
You are responsible for ensuring that any SSL certificates issued to you are renewed when necessary and all relevant renewal fees are paid in full. We have no liability for any failure by you to renew any SSL certificate.
Authentication of SSL certificates
Domain Validated (‘DV’) certificates
Domain Validated certificates provide domain-only validation by the CA. During the process of ordering the certificate, the CA will validate that the domain administrator has authorised the certificate application. DV certificates provide:
- validation of the domain;
- message, software and content integrity; and
- confidentiality encryption.
A DV certificate provides assurances of the validity of the domain and that the domain administrator has authorised the relevant certificate application. The organisation behind the domain is not validated by the CA.
Organisation Validated (‘OV’) certificates
Organisation Validated certificates require a certain amount of additional validation by the CA, which validates the identity of the organisation and its entitlement to use the domain name(s) listed in the relevant certificate application.
OV certificates provide:
- authentication;
- message, software and content integrity; and
- confidentiality encryption.
An OV certificate provides assurances of the identity and entitlement of an organisation to use any domain name listed in the relevant certificate application.
Extended Validation (‘EV’) certificates
Extended Validation certificates aim to establish the legal identity of and the operational and physical presence of a website owner, that the applicant for an EV certificate is the owner of the subject domain name, or has exclusive control over the domain name, and confirm the identity and authority of the indivicuals acting for the website owner and that documents pertaining to legal obligations are signed by an authorised office of the organisation.
EV certificates provide:
- verification of the legal entity behind the website;
- authentication;
- message, software and content integrity; and
- confidentiality encryption.
An EV certificate provides assurances of the legal identity of the organisation to whom the certificate is issued, the organisation's presence and that the applicant is the owner of the domain and has the authority of the organisation to act on behalf of the domain's owner.
Limitations on the issue of SSL certificates
You may not use an SSL certificate:
- for any other organisation;
- to perform private or public key operations in connection with any domain and/or organisation name other than the one you submitted on your certificate application;
- for illegal or unauthorised purposes;
- on more than one physical server or device at a time unless expressly permitted by us in writing; or
- for use as control equipment in hazardous circumstances or for uses requiring fail-safe performance such as the operation of nuclear facilities, aircraft navigation or communcation systems, air traffic control systems, or weapons control systems, where faiure could lead to death, injury or environmental damage.
Revocation
We retain teh right to revoke an SSL certificate at any time without notice if:
- we are required to do so by the relevant CA or any third-party on behalf of which we resell the SSL certificate service;
- we discover that the information within your SSL certificate is no longer valid;
- you fail to perform your obligations under the terms of this agreement; or
- at our absolute discretion, we consider that you have engaged in activities which are harmful or unlawful.
Term
This Schedule commences on the date of the relevant order acceptance and the SSL certificate is valid for its applicable validity period, unless revoked earlier or renewed in accordance with this Schedule.
